The House Republican responsible for maintaining and expanding the party’s majority says he isn’t finished yet.
National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden said Friday that he hopes to continue leading the NRCC again next election cycle.
“Yes. I do,” Walden confirmed during a Christian Science Monitor breakfast. “You meet some terrific people. You see parts of the country you would never get to see otherwise.”
“Does it suck every bit of oxygen out of your life?” Walden added with a laugh. “Yes, it does.”
Walden has received some criticism as the NRCC has consistently behind its Democratic counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, in fundraising.
But Republicans appear poised to maintain their majority in the House and might even pick up some seats. Walden says his goal is 245 seats in the House, which would be a net gain of 12 seats.
