Ted Cruz: Ron Klain is a ‘political operative’

Sen. Ted Cruz does not agree with Ron Klain’s appointment as the Obama administration’s Ebola czar.

“Mr. Klain is not a doctor, he’s not a health care professional, he doesn’t have background in these issues,” the Texas Republican said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday.

“We don’t need a White House political operative, which is what Mr. Klain has been. What we need is presidential leadership. The person who needs to be on top of this is the president of the United States,” Cruz lamented.

Klain, who is now in charge of coordinating and leading the federal government’s efforts to protect the U.S. from Ebola, was a former chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden. He also served in the same position to former Vice President Al Gore.

“We should be less concerned about giving the public the feeling that the government is on top of this and more concerned about the government actually being on top of it,” Cruz said.

A travel ban to and from West African countries stricken with the disease is a “basic, common-sense step,” Cruz also said, wondering why the Obama administration continually opposes the travel ban.

The federal government continues to hold strong that Ebola is not something to panic about in the U.S.
