State Department senior adviser Marie Harf is reportedly among the people Joe Biden’s political advisers would like to bring aboard for a 2016 presidential campaign.
But despite the rumbling about potential hires, Democratic operatives are increasingly doubting that Biden will run for president a third time, especially after CNN reported he won’t participate in the first Democratic debate in Las Vegas on Oct. 13.
For his part, Biden seems to be unwilling to be rushed and the timeline for a decision has changed multiple times.
According to a report by the Associated Press, this skepticism hasn’t kept Biden loyalists from laying the groundwork for hiring staff. Per the AP, Harf has been in discussions with Biden’s team about joining on in a top communications post. She most recently aided Secretary of State John Kerry during the Iran nuclear negotiations, served as State Department deputy spokesperson and is a veteran of the Obama 2012 team.
Biden’s team is also reportedly talking to former Obama campaign official Paul Tewes, who headed the president’s 2008 efforts in Iowa and is credited with helping topple Hillary Clinton in the state.
