Poll: Six in 10 voters believe Trump will win GOP nomination

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump enters the final ten days before the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses with a majority of U.S. voters viewing him as the likely GOP nominee.

Sixty percent of voters in a new Rasmussen Reports survey believe the self-funded billionaire is likely to receive the Republican Party’s nomination — the second-highest percentage of voters since Rasmussen began the weekly survey in August. Last week, 61 percent of voters listed a Trump nomination as “likely.”

Among GOP voters, 72 percent think Trump will succeed in the primary contest and 40 percent say the outspoken businessman is “very likely” to be the Republican nominee for president. Nearly a quarter of Republicans maintain the belief it is “unlikely” that Trump will be the nominee, and only 7 percent say it is “not at all likely.”

Trump held a number of campaign rallies this week, including one in Iowa where former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin announced her endorsement of the leading GOP candidate. Furthermore, several recent reports suggest the Republican establishment is warming to the idea of a Trump nomination if the party’s primary comes down to a two-man contest between him and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted from Jan. 20-21 and contains a margin of error plus or minus 3 percent.
