White House garden opens for tours

The White House will be offering free tours of its famous edible garden on April 9 and 10, which will include self-guided tours of Michelle Obama’s Kitchen Garden, which includes rows of fresh veggies like pak choi, kale, kohlrabi, rhubarb, Swiss chard, arugula, mint, garlic, radishes, and two special beds in honor of President Jefferson, including some of the third president’s favorites, like purple broccoli, artichokes and cabbage.

Also on display for tours will be the White House Rose Garden, the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden and the South Lawn. The National Park Service will distribute free, timed tickets at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion located at 15th and E Streets on each tour day beginning at 8 a.m.
