Wisconsin Democrats look to rebound at convention

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) — A few days after a series of demoralizing recall losses, Wisconsin Democrats are sounding an optimistic tone ahead the next round of elections in November.

The state Democratic Party opened its two-day convention Friday in Appleton.

Speakers including U.S. Reps. Tammy Baldwin and Gwen Moore said Tuesday’s losses were hard, but that volunteers shouldn’t feel deflated. They say it’s important to help re-elect President Barack Obama and elect Baldwin to the U.S. Senate.

Mike Tate is the chairman of the state party. He says despite the recall losses, Democrats have no regrets about waging the recall fight. He says some things are worth fighting for and even worth losing for.

Among the six recalls, the effort to oust Gov. Scott Walker was the biggest. He won by 7 percentage points.
