GOP push to overturn same-sex marriage in Texas fails

The Republican-led Texas legislature failed to get a bill through that would have prevented same-sex marriages in the state, according to the Washington Post.

Democrats blocked the bill reaching the floor for a House vote by Friday night’s required deadline, which would have allowed it to be voted on by the full Texas Legislature before the session ends later this month, would have prohibited local officials from granting marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to issue its federal ruling on same-sex marriage by next month.
