Carly Fiorina bashed Ben Carson and Donald Trump Friday for threatening to bolt the Republican Party.
Appearing on “The Hugh Hewitt Show,” Fiorina said that she isn’t making noise about leaving the party because “I’m actually a Republican” — a veiled shot at the pair of outsiders. The comment came hours after Carson released a statement implying that he might be pushed to leave the party if GOP elites play a role in picking the nominee.
“No, I’m not going to threaten to leave the party because I am actually a Republican,” Fiorina told Hewitt Friday evening.
“I don’t quite understand the point Dr. Carson is making. Nobody in the party determines whether or not there’s a brokered convention. The voters are going to determine whether there’s a brokered convention,” Fiorina said. “If no one goes into the convention with enough votes to be declared the winner, then it is a brokered convention. So, you could make the case that a brokered convention does reflect the will of the people. So I was a little confused by his statement, honestly.”
“If we go to a brokered convention, it’s because that’s how voters have voted,” Fiorina reiterated. “So that’s why I’m a little confused by his statement.”
Carson backtracked later on, telling Fox News’ Neil Cavuto that he would not run an independent campaign because it would only help Hillary Clinton’s chances. The Republican National Committee also responded to the former neurosurgeon, saying that his worries are “quite silly.”
