Lynch: California shooting has ‘no place’ in U.S.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch condemned Thursday’s shooting in California that left 14 dead and at least 17 other injured.

“Whatever the results of this investigation … one thing is clear: Violence like this has no place in this country and in this nation,” Lynch said, speaking from a separate White House event on incarceration and poverty.

“This is not what we stand for, this is not what we do, this is not what we work for,” she said. “This is not what we live for, it’s antithetical to our values.”

The two suspects of the shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., early Wednesday, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, were killed by police in a shootout. Lynch said more information about the incident will be made available as local and federal authorities continue their investigation.

“[I] do want to express not only my deepest condolences but also ask that you join me in standing with our colleagues, our friends, our partners in San Bernardino who are suffering with this, and add all of our thoughts and prayers to them at this time, along with them and also the brave public safety officials who have put themselves in harm’s way to stop this assault and to save others,” she concluded. She said the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the U.S. Marshall service personnel have been sent to the scene.
