After nine months, Gov. Chris Christie’s name is close to being cleared in the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal.
Evidence thus far shows Christie did not know in advance, nor did he direct the closure of traffic lanes in September 2013, Justice Department officials told NBC 4 New York.
Assemblyman John Wisniewski said the state legislative committee’s investigation into the bridge lane closures, dubbed “Bridgegate,” is continuing.
“Obviously, we’ll wait to hear whatever the authorities have to say, but certainly this is a report that comes as no shock to me,” Christie said about the findings during his “Ask the Governor” show on New Jersey radio station 101.5 FM.
The scandal was once considered damaging to Christie’s chances, though the RealClearPolitics average of polls has him leading the GOP field.
