The lineup for the Silverdocs Documentary Festival was announced Wednesday, with Elmo and Sen. Al Franken listed among the prominent guests.
Elmo and his puppeteer Kevin Clash will attend a screening of “Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey,” a film that traces Clash’s Baltimore beginnings to his work with Jim Henson to his creation of the one of the most famous puppets in the world.
Franken will be on hand to honor filmmakers Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker for their collective body of work, including the flick, “Al Franken: God Spoke.”
The festival kicks off with a screening of “The Swell Season,” a look at the lives of folk-rock musicians Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova who starred in the 2007 movie “Once” and won the Academy Award for best original song “Falling Slowly.”
And for the wonkier types, the week-long festival concludes with a screening of “Revenge of the Electric Car,” a follow-up to Chris Paine’s riveting 2006 documentary, “Who Killed the Electric Car.”
Silverdocs runs from June 20-26 at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring. Tickets can be purchased online at Silverdocs.com.
