A day of firsts needed a first cupcake, right?
Of all the cupcake shops in town, openly gay D.C. Councilman David Catania chose Hello Cupcake’s signature chocolate and vanilla treats to give out to the first 200 gay couples who picked up a marriage license at the Carl Moultrie Courthouse on Wednesday morning.
“I have a favorite cupcake store, it’s the one closest to my house,” Catania said on choosing a shop to package two cupcakes for all couples, gay and straight, who celebrated the passage of the gay marriage act in the District.
“So I contacted Hello Cupcake and asked if they wanted to do a joint venture,” Catania said.
But with so many shops in town like Georgetown Cupcake, Baked and Wired or Red Velvet vying for eaters, did Catania start a cupcake war by choosing Hello Cupcake as the signature cake to celebrate gay marriage?
Let’s hope not.
