Trump: My Israel peace deal is ‘not an Obama-type deal’

Donald Trump dodged questions on the particulars of his plan for a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians on Sunday, but insisted that what he does have is “not an Obama-type deal.”

The Republican presidential front-runner declined to share on Sunday’s “This Week” any details of his planned speech Monday before the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference. Trump would not say if a deal he brokered would involve Israel giving up some land or offer any specifics on the matter.

“I don’t know one Jewish person that doesn’t want to have a deal, a good deal, a proper deal, but a really good deal,” the billionaire businessman said. A good deal is not like an “Obama-type deal,” Trump said.

Peace talks devised by the Obama administration and led by Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry have fallen apart.

When asked to define a “good deal,” Trump said he will wait until his speech at AIPAC on Monday to further elaborate.

“We would like to see and everybody would like to see a real deal be made, not a deal that’s going to be broken, a real deal being made, something that can be lasting,” Trump said, steering completely clear of detail.

Critics have decried Trump’s claim he would be “neutral” while working to end the 50-year-old conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Despite the backlash, Trump maintains that it would be impossible to strike a deal if he were to take sides, but has also said he is “totally pro-Israel.”
