It snowed at the Grand Canyon, and the result was spectacular

The American southwest was the recipient of some major winter weather in this new year, but in at least one place, the result was breathtaking.

The National Park Service posted on its Flickr:

Happy New Year! As of 9:15 a.m. the morning of January 1, 2015, all South Rim roads are open – but the roads are really snow-packed and icy – 4 wheel drive or snow chains are recommended. Grand Canyon received some additional snow this morning and it is a winter wonderland out there. The storm is expected to clear around 12 noon today, so the snow down in the inner-canyon should melt fast.
