Poll: Trump supporters most enthusiastic

Supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump are significantly more enthusiastic about the New York billionaire’s White House bid than those who have backed Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. John Kasich.

A net 65 percent of Trump supporters described themselves as “extremely or very enthusiastic” compared to Cruz’s 39 percent and Kasich’s 33 percent, according to a March 21-23 Gallup poll of Republicans registered to vote.

And in a likely danger sign for Kasich, 31 percent of his own supporters say they are “not at all enthusiastic” about his candidacy. The GOP poll had a 5 percent margin of error.

Among Democrats and left-leaning voters, Hillary Clinton’s supporters were more excited about her bid for the Oval Office than those of Sen. Bernie Sanders, despite an FBI investigation into her alleged illegal use of a private email server. A net 54 percent of Clinton backers reported high levels of enthusiasm for the former secretary of state’s campaign compared to the Vermont senator’s 44 percent.
