Delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte will be greeted in holy fashion this September — 56 local churches have been asked to adopt each of the 56 delegations for prayer. A 40-day fast is already underway, and organizer David Benham says the non-partisan Charlotte714 movement, named for 2 Chronicles 7:14, is working with the DNC to provide welcome baskets and letters to the delegates. “It’s one thing to be hospitable as a Christian, but they’re coming south, for heaven’s sakes,” he said. “We ought to be hospitable.”
Charlotte714 will culminate on Sept. 2 with a free day of musical performances and prayer. Benham stressed to Yeas & Nays the non-partisan nature of the event. “We feel American is in a moral and spritiaul crisis,” he said. “It’s not just Democratic or Republican.” Amen, brother.
