Donald Trump on Tuesday tweeted a quote from actor Robert Redford that he thought was an endorsement of his presidential campaign, when it was really the opposite.
Earlier Tuesday, Trump tweeted out this quote from Larry King’s interview with Redford and fellow thespian Nick Nolte:
Wow! Such nice words from Robert Redford on my running for President. Thank you, Robert. pic.twitter.com/TpV3w18BW6

But that snippet of the interview distorted Redford’s overall point, which was that while he is not a huge fan of the Democratic offerings for this presidential cycle, he still cannot take Trump seriously as a candidate.
What Redford actually said was:
“He’s got such a big foot in his mouth, I’m not sure you can get it out. But on the other hand, I’m glad he’s in there. I’m glad he’s in there, because him being the way he is and saying what he says the way he says it, I think shakes thinks up. And I think that’s very needed because the other side is so bland, so boring, is so empty. It’s like Looney Tunes and not Merry Melodies. It’s crazy stuff.”
King interjected with a sarcastic, “That’s all folks,” before Redford went on to say, “It’s like ‘Come on you guys, you’re making us feel foolish just having to watch you.'”
King then joked that Nolte could play Trump in a movie, to which Nolte responded: “If I could get long enough hair.”
Just to clear up any confusion about whether Redford supports Trump for president, Entertainment Weekly reached out to his representative, who gave a pretty clear answer.
“He enjoys Donald Trump, but not for president,” Redford’s rep said.
