Miss Piggy better watch out — longtime beau, Kermit the Frog, had some super sweet words to say about First Lady Michelle Obama.
We asked the Muppet who he thought was the cuter of the two, and he gave Yeas & Nays this response. “Well, since I’m here in Washington and Miss Piggy is like somewhere else, I’m going to say Michelle,” he said. “But maybe you could print two versions of the article, the one that Miss Piggy is going to see — is definitely Miss Piggy, yeah,” he added.
We talked to “The Muppets” star during Thursday afternoon’s rehearsals for the annual White House Christmas Tree Lighting. He practiced his lines with Carson Daly, did a quick television interview with CBS’ Bob Schieffer, and cracked some political jokes on stage. “Sounds a lot like Newt Gingrich,” Kermit quipped, as a stand-in for the first lady described Santa Claus during a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Kermit even had some intel on Gingrich’s origins. “Listen, Newt is actually from the swamp…a lot of people don’t know what, but he’s from right there in the swamp,” he told us.
The Muppet explained that he had been encouraged to run for office. “But I don’t know, a small green frog in Washington, I’m not sure how that would work, you know?” he said. “I did grow up in a swamp, you know, as such I have a lot of experience with snakes and rats — so maybe that would come in handy.”
He might not want to because, turns out, it’s pretty easy to be green. Kermit doesn’t have to pay taxes. “Well I am an Amphibian-American,” he explained. “So it’s pretty good, it’s not so bad.”
