CBS News reporter Major Garrett spent roughly five minutes during Monday’s White House press briefing on what kind of “pet names” President Obama may have for world leaders.
Garrett asked White House press secretary Josh Earnest to confirm a previously reported comment by British Prime Minister David Cameron that Obama sometimes calls him “bro.”
“Is that true?” Garrett asked during the first press briefing since Obama returned to Washington, D.C., from his vacation in Hawaii. “And is there any other pet names he has for world leaders?”
After initially dismissing the question as “a clown question, bro” (a reference to Washington Nationals baseball player Bryce Hyper), Earnest said he was “not able to give much more insight about the private communications between the president of the United States and the prime minister of the United Kingdom.”
Garrett followed up: “Having been revealed publicly, do you have any reason to doubt the prime minister’s assertion?”
Earnest simply concluded that Obama and Cameron have “a special relationship.”
