Trump pummels Carson, Fiorina

Donald Trump pummeled Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina Sunday, blasting the neurosurgeon and former executive. Trump called Carson someone who can’t “make a deal” and Fiorina “one of the worst executives in history.”

“Ben’s a doctor, he’s not a deal-maker,” Trump said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “I don’t think that’s his natural ability at all.”

Trump, who leads the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, still has front-runner status nationally in the GOP presidential race, but he’s been especially hammering Carson as the doctor makes gains in the polls, especially in the early battleground of New Hampshire. He said Sunday he’s “surprised” Carson is polling well in the Granite State.

Trump also recently raised eyebrows by appearing to criticize the physical appearance of rival Carly Fiorina. Last week, he was quoted in Rolling Stone as saying: “Look at her face! Would anyone vote for that?” Trump has since insisted he was referring only to Fiorina’s “persona.”

He reiterated that claim on Sunday, and then proceeded to bash Fiorina for her record as CEO of Hewlett Packard in the early 2000s, a position from which she was ultimately ousted.

“You could call it bad luck, you could call it a bad job, but Hewlett Packard was a disaster,” Trump said. “She’s one of the worst executives in history.”

The billionaire celebrity also criticized extravagant pay for CEOs and mentioned the tax plan he intends to release within the next few weeks, which would lower corporate tax rates.

When asked what kinds of campaign finance or ethics reforms he might support, Trump responded that getting “competent people in office” is the most important kind of reform.

“A huge reform is to get competent people in office,” he said. “That’s the biggest reform we can make.”
