CNN poll: Trump and Cruz take control in Iowa

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz appear to be taking control in Iowa, as both have seen significant surges in support with just 10 days left before Iowans vote, according to a new poll.

According to the latest CNN poll, Trump leads in the Hawkeye State with 37 percent over Cruz’s 26 percent, an 11-point lead. That’s a sizable gain for both compared to December, when Trump led with 33 percent and Cruz had 20 percent.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is the only other candidate to make a dent among caucus-goers, with 14 percent backing him in the latest poll.

Dr. Ben Carson fell 10 points and has only 6 percent support, down from 16 percent in their previous poll in early December. No other candidate garners more than 3 percent.

According to the latest RealClearPolitics average, Trump leads Cruz in Iowa by almost 3 percent, 29 to 26.4 percent.

It also comes as the two continue to trade barbs, as Trump has attacked Cruz over his temperament and his relationship with others in the U.S. Senate, and Cruz has gone after Trump’s conservatism.
