Anchorman Bolter opens red red wine bar

CHEERS Red red wine makes you feel so fine and it has been keeping Fox 5 main news anchor Brian Bolter rocking all of the time … or at least for the past decade. ” I fell in love with wine nine years ago and it opened my eyes to how amazing and intimidating it is as well. It’s such a mountain of knowledge and it feels like it [wine] is so pretentious and so elitist, but there are ways to explain wine and enjoy it that don’t have to fall into these stereotypes,” the veteran journalist tells Yeas & Nays.

But it wasn’t until recently that Bolter realized his passion for wine would soon turn into a labor of love. “I am trying to take the power away from the wine snobs and put it back in the hands of the people. As television reporters we take a lot of complex information and put it into digestible bites that are easy to consume … and I feel like that’s what needs to be done with wine for your palate physically,” he says.

So, two years ago the wine enthusiast and his wife, Lisa, decided to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit and open a wine bar in downtown Annapolis. The couple signed a lease last June and have been working ever since to convert a retail space on Main Street into a restaurant with a full liquor license, appropriately named the Red Red Wine Bar. “I’m setting it up and am going to be the wine buyer. I will do a lot of the initial work and some of the background work. Then, my wife [Lisa] is going to run it … as she likes to say, she’s ‘the boss,'” Brian said with a smile.

With its funky, eclectic vibe, California Cuisine style dishes and a handpicked selection of wines (43 by the glass and 140 by the bottle), all broken down by their flavor profiles, this wine bar will not be traditional.

The Red Red Wine Bar is scheduled to open later this spring.
