Where’s my stapler?: ‘Office Space’ stars mark film’s 10th anniversary in D.C.

Umm, yeeeah. Did you get the memo?

There’s only one film the DC Labor Filmfest shows every year: “Office Space.” To mark the film’s 10th anniversary, actors Stephen Root and Gary Cole joined a sold-out crowd for a showing filled with awkward memories and red Swingline staplers.

“We thought [‘Office Space’] was dead until people started doing the dialogue on the street,” said Cole, who played boss Bill Lumbergh. He said the film was the only thing that kept him and Root, who played Milton, “on or near the radar.”

Before “Office Space,” Root worked as a temp and became quite acquainted with cubicles, at one point even assembling some.

“Christmas Eve, I was typing paychecks, it was very Milton-esque,” Root said.

Cole, on the other hand, never had much office experience and was candid when asked about his worst technology malfunction.

“I’m sure it was bong-related,” he said. “Other than a paint brush, that’s the only piece of equipment I’ve used in years.”
