A-listers swoop in for ‘Museum’ premiere

That didn’t take long. Just five days after the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, a whole new complement of Hollywood royalty came to town. Only this time, it was all about them.

The place? The Air and Space Museum. The occasion? The premiere of “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.” Who came? Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson Amy Adams and Hank Azaria, to name a few.

“We had so much fun in the first one, we wanted to see if we could improve it and do it bigger and better for the second one,” said Stiller.

But, as Adams told us, they didn’t do much actual filming inside the Smithsonian museums, sticking mostly to exterior shots here in D.C. Still, she said, Washington provided one of her favorite moments. “The most amazing thing was when we shot at the Lincoln Memorial,” she said. “We had a full moon, looking out at the whole Mall.”

“Talking about yourself is tiring,” confessed Gervais as he approached us on the red carpet. So we talked about comedy instead. The main differernce between American humor and British humor, he said, is that “Americans seem to celebrate success more. In England, the putz is the main character.”

That emeges from the fact that “Americans think they can be the next president of the United States,” he added. “In Britain, we’re told, ‘You can’t do that.'”

“I’d have to kill about four million people” to be king, quipped Gervais. “I’m about 4 millionth in line. It would be a bloodbath.”

Also spotted cashing in on their perks: Vice President Joe Biden’s three grandchildren, and Reps. Anthony Weiner, Connie Mack, Mary Bono, Doris Matsui and Joe Crowley.
