Rubio, Kasich surge in Pa., but not enough to catch Trump

Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich are finding new life among voters in Pennsylvania, and have eliminated Donald Trump’s double-digit lead in the state with about two months to go before the state’s primary.

Rubio has risen 5 points since January, and sits second place at 16 percent, according to a new Franklin & Marshall College poll released Thursday. Kasich has jumped 12 points compared to the January poll, and is close behind Rubio with 15 percent.

But both still trail Trump, who has 22 percent, down just a bit from the 24 percent he had in January.

The newest poll has Ben Carson in fifth place with 6 percent. It also says 25 percent of respondents in Pennsylvania said they are still undecided.

Even though he leads in the Keystone State, Trump is not seen favorably. Just 45 of Pennsylvania Republicans view Trump positively, compared to 42 percent who have a negative view of him.

Rubio had the highest favorability splits, as 61 percent viewing him favorably and just 19 percent see him unfavorably.

The surveyed of 371 Republicans — which was done either over phone or online depending on the respondent’s preference — was conducted Feb. 13 – 21 and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
