Bush pledges to undo Obama gun control actions

Before President Obama stepped to the podium to announce new gun control measures by executive action, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush pledged to undo the president’s work.

In a guest editorial published on Tuesday morning by the Cedar Rapids Gazette in Iowa, Bush wrote that the new executive actions trample on America’s Second Amendment rights.

“Barack Obama has proved again why he will go down as one of the most liberal and divisive presidents in the history of our nation. Obama’s declaration that he will impose his gun control agenda by executive order shows an utter disregard for the Second Amendment as well as the proper constitutional process for making laws in our nation,” Bush wrote. “When I am president of the United States, I will repeal Obama’s anti-gun executive orders on Day One of my administration. I will oppose legislative actions that impose unnecessary burdens on law-abiding gun owners, and I will nominate and fight for conservative judges who have a deep respect for the Constitution and the Second Amendment.”

Bush’s editorial argues that protecting gun rights are more important now than ever before and touted his positive rating from the National Rifle Association. Bush’s relationship with the NRA came under additional scrutiny this week when BuzzFeed.com reported the former governor incorrectly claimed to have received the organization’s “statesman of the year” award, which does not exist.

Bush ranks fifth in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings released on Tuesday.
