Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., held little back in his criticism of Republicans’ battle against the Affordable Care Act.
Just hours after the Supreme Court delivered a decision that upheld the healthcare law, Van Hollen told the GOP to stop trying to destroy it.

“This is the second time the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Affordable Care Act. It’s time for Republicans to give up their numbskull quest to try to unravel the law,” Van Hollen, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said Thursday on MSNBC. “They’ve tried 60 times or so in the House of Representatives and the Congress to unwind it. Now it’s time to look to the future.”
Van Hollen, who is a candidate to replace retiring Democratic Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski next year, also criticized Republicans’ plans to “repeal and replace” Obamacare. Despite all that, they have never brought an alternative plan to the floor, Van Hollen argued.
“The reality of the matter is, they’ve got no ideas for how to fill the giant hole that would have been left if the Supreme Court had ruled the other way,” he said. “Now it’s a losing proposition for them to want to oppose this, because the country is not going to want to be dragged backwards after two Supreme Court decisions.”
