As the month draws to a close, Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders reached his February fundraising goal with some change to spare.
An online tracker set up by Sanders’ campaign indicated that as of Monday evening it raised over $41 million with more than 1.4 million contributions before the Federal Election Commission fundraising deadline just before the start of Super Tuesday, March 1. The haul is double the $20 million Sanders raised in January.
“You crushed our goal of raising $40 million for the month, read a tweet from Sanders’ official campaign Twitter account Monday evening, boasting a new goal of $45 million before midnight on Feb. 29.

“My opponent has a very large super PAC. We fundraise a different way. Chip in,” read another tweet earlier in the day. The Vermont senator has largely funded his campaign on small donations.

Sanders will compete for votes in 11 Super Tuesday states against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Of the four early voting states to hold their contests already, Sanders has only won New Hampshire.
