Donald Trump “probably” would not tweet out an unflattering picture of rival Ted Cruz’s wife if given a second chance, the leading GOP candidate said Sunday.
Trump maintained on “Fox News Sunday” that he didn’t start the fight between his wife the Cruz’s wife, and “this was a response” to what he has claimed is a Cruz-led effort to smear his wife. Still, Trump said Sunday that, “If I had it to do again, I probably wouldn’t have sent it.”
At the same time, Trump said he did not think his retweet was “particularly bad.”
The businessman’s seemingly regretful admission followed a column published Saturday in which the candidate went a step further, saying “I made a mistake.”
Last month, Trump retweeted a picture of his wife Melania Trump, and an unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz, with the caption, “No need to ‘Spill the Beans.’ These images are worth a thousand words.”

This prompted Cruz to fire back, “Donald, real men don’t attack women. Your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life.”
Trump, who likes to call Cruz “Lyin’ Ted,” says the Texas senator started the feud by helping to create a campaign ad that shows an old picture of Melania Trump posing nude for GQ Magazine. However, an anti-Trump super political action committee, Make America Awesome Again, was behind the ad, and there is no evidence to suggest that Cruz broke campaign rules by coordinating with any outside group.
When asked Sunday if he had any evidence that Cruz knew anything about the attack by the independent super PAC, Trump did not back down.
“My evidence is total common sense,” Trump said. “He knew those people, those people are 100 percent for them, they coordinated together, I have no doubt about it in a million years. He did that attack.”
