Washingtonians make Playboy’s ‘55’ roster

Given how famously unsexy Washington is, we were surprised to discover that plenty of Washington-types made Playboy magazine’s “55 Most Important People in Sex” list, which appears in the latest issue.

Of course, we weren’t surprised to see Monica Lewinsky in the No. 6 slot, but she was followed by Reagan Attorney General Ed Meese (No. 17). “The Meese Commission heard testimony from a variety of nut jobs and ferreted out the most bizarre and vile magazines, movies and books it could find. … [I]ts practical effect was to give license to crusading local prosecutors, who began pressuring convenience, book and video stores to cleanse their shelves of suspect material.”

Justice William Douglas clocks in at No. 33, but the mag praises Douglas’ dissenting vote in a controversial 1973 case, Miller v. California.

Finally, J. Edgar Hoover hits the list at No. 50. “He earns a spot for his dastardly use of sexual blackmail.”
