Sheriff Beth Arthur, a Democrat seeking re-election in November, has a war chest of $16,397, the largest campaign contribution total of any candidate seeking county office.
County board chairman Paul Ferguson is a close second with $13,460 in his political action committee’s account and $443 cash on hand, according to financial reports filed with the state and county. The financial reports cover donations and expenditures between Jan. 1 and March 31. The reports were due last week.
Ferguson, also a Democrat, is not seeking re-election but is running unopposed for circuit court clerk. Ferguson’s political action committee, Ferguson Victory Fund, donated $150 to Arthur’s campaign.
After Arthur and Ferguson, the next biggest war chest is that of Abby Rafael, running against Mark Dorfman for the Democratic endorsement for school board. Rafael ended the filing period with $10,735 on hand, compared with Dorfman’s $8,502. Rafael raised $17,317 and spent $10,915.
Former school board member Mary Hynes, running for county board, has $8,820 in cash. She received $250 from the PAC of board member Chris Zimmerman. Hynes leads the money race among the three candidates running for two county board seats up in November.
Board member Walter Tejada, a Democrat running for re-election, has $3,329 on hand. His political action committee, Tejada Victory Fund, donated $4,000 to his campaign in March.
Green candidate Josh Ruebner reported no donations or expenses during the filing cycle. He reported $199 cash on hand.
Treasurer Frank O’Leary, running an unexpected Democratic primary race, is beating his challenger by some $400 in the cash on hand race. O’Leary’s balance is $2,964 compared with Robert “Bob” James’ $2,500.
During the most recent filing period, O’Leary received $300 in contributions from two of his staff members. James’ $2,500 came from a single source, corporate transactions attorney Michael Long.
Commissioner of Revenue Ingrid Morroy, a Democrat running unopposed for re-election, also reported no donations or expenses during the filing period. She reported receipts of $807.
