Erick Erickson endorses Paul Ryan for re-election

Conservative blogger Erick Erickson, an influential voice in grassroots Republican politics, endorsed House Speaker Paul Ryan for his re-election bid.

Erickson wrote on his website Wednesday that Ryan is “the steadiest hand in the tumultuous seas right now,” even as many conservatives remain skeptical of his leadership.

“I like the guy,” he wrote of Ryan, who represents Wisconsin. “We may disagree politically on some things, but I think Paul Ryan is the best conservatives can hope for right now in Washington, and he’s a decent person.”

Ryan assumed the speakership in October, and in that time has angered many conservatives who say he has been too willing to make deals with Democrats and President Obama.

“I see a party fracturing and a descent into tribalist, nationalist tendencies among a lot of people who should know better,” Erickson wrote. “If we’re going to fight the GOP civil war, I think Wisconsin’s First Congressional District can at least provide us with one stable, non-tribalist happy warrior against a horde of angry people willing to sack the party of Lincoln and Reagan just because they’re pissed off.”
