Donald Trump thinks Ted Cruz should seek a “declaratory judgment” from a federal court on whether he is eligible to be president despite being born in Canada.
“Here’s what I think I’d do: I’d go and seek a declaratory judgment if I was Ted,” the Republican presidential front-runner told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer during a pre-taped interview Wednesday evening. “What does that mean?” Blitzer responded.
“It means you go to court,” Trump said. “You go to federal court to ask for — what’s called a declaratory judgment.”He continued, “You go in seeking the decision of the court, without a court case. You go right in. You go before a judge, you do it quickly. It can go quickly. Declaratory judgment, very good, I’ve used it on numerous occasions and I’ve been pretty good with it, actually.”Trump first spoke about Cruz’s birth status in an interview Tuesday with the Washington Post, claiming the Texas senator’s Canadian origin puts him in a “precarious position.”On Wednesday, the billionaire’s national spokeswoman argued that Trump has only addressed the issue out of concern for Cruz, his friendliest rival in the GOP field.Trump and Cruz are first and second, respectively, in the Washington Examiner‘s latest presidential power rankings.j
