While Senate candidates in Kentucky bicker about shooting technique, Republicans in Alaska are mocking Democratic Sen. Mark Begich for his snowmobile skills.
A new ad released Wednesday by Republican Dan Sullivan’s campaign features X Games snowmobile medalist Cory Davis, who smirks at a prior ad by Begich in which he rides a snowmobile (called a “snow machine” in Alaska).
“I know something about snow machines,” Davis says. “That’s why I had a good laugh when I saw Mark Begich pretending to ride one.”
“Begich acts like Mr. Alaska when he wants our vote, but the truth is, he votes with Obama and his D.C. friends, not Alaska,” Davis adds. “I’m tired of the phony politicians and Mark Begich’s lame tricks.”
The ad echoes a response by Sen. Mitch McConnell’s re-election campaign in Kentucky, which lampooned Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes for her skeet shooting technique in an ad.
But the Senate race in Alaska is even more hotly contested and could decide which party controls the Senate. Sullivan and Begich has each tried to appeal to voters as the more Alaskan candidate, with Begich using the tagline “true Alaska” for his campaign. Sullivan, meanwhile, has attacked Begich as “pure Washington.”
