Stephanopoulos house sells for $1m less than asking price

George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth’s Georgetown home is officially off the market. Alan Adler of Chevy Chase Trust bought the property for close to a million dollars less than the asking price.

Adler, who purchased the estate through a trust, closed on the house more than a month ago, stealing the five-bedroom, six-and-a-half bath mansion for $5.45 million instead of the $6.35 million asking price.

On top of that, Adler negotiated a $42,000 contribution at closing from Stephanopoulos for an elevator repair and some minor cosmetic issues.

Sources tell Yeas & Nays that Stephanopoulos was eager to close the deal. The family will move June 15 to the Upper East Side of New York City for his gig on “Good Morning America.” Adler and his wife, Suzanne, plan to move in to the residence this summer.

What to expect from the new neighbors? A friend described Alan Adler as a “straight up, likable guy.”

Adler is a polo player for the First Chukker Foundation and involved in various charitable social events in Washington.

Neither the Adlers nor George Stephanopoulos responded to requests for comment.
