Ann Romney wears leather and lace for Leno appearance

Ann Romney — grandmother of 18 — rocked an all-black leather ensemble during an appearance on “The Tonight Show” Tuesday night. (Apparently the public has gotten over the faux-scandal of Condoleeza Rice wearing black leather boots back in 2005.) Her look, paired with lacy high-heeled booties, was designed by Alfred Fiandaca, a designer with Boston ties whose previous clients include Nancy Reagan.

Romney chatted with host Jay Leno about her husband’s dancing skills (“He’s gotten to be a better dancer,” she said diplomatically); where they like to shop (“We love Costco”) and whether Mitt is frugal or cheap.

“Cheap,” she answered Leno without hesitation. “Do you want to know what he does when we leave the house? He turns off the hot water heater. Do you know what he does when we come back to the house? He forgets he’s gotta turn the water heater back on.”

She added, “He says, cold showers, they’re not that bad.”
