Heavyweights of business, government, entertainment, community service and, of course, boxing came out Thursday night to show their support for Fight For Children’s 21st Annual Fight Night at the Washington Hilton. Legendary boxing greats “Smokin’ ” Joe Frazier, Gerry Cooney, James “Buster” Douglas, Larry Holmes, “The Raging Bull” Jake LaMotta, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, Ken Norton, Aaron Pryor, and Ernie Terrell attended the nearly sold-out event out with 1,700 guests that helps raise money for the education of low-income kids and also honors the legends of boxing.
Yeas & Nays caught up with heavyweight champion Frazier, who told us Fight Night is a worthy cause. “I’ve been coming here to Washington for 20 years or more to help the needy and not the greedy,” he said.
Former Maryland Rep. Tom McMillen, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, D.C. Mayor-elect Vincent Gray, Fox News’ Bret Baier attended the packed event, and Grand Funk Railroad performed inside the ring. A spokesperson for Fight For Children says they are still counting but raised close to $2 million.
