Hillary Clinton’s former speechwriter thinks the biggest mystery surrounding the Democratic presidential front-runner is why she struggles to appear hip.
“I do not think anyone will ever figure out why Hillary Clinton isn’t cool, but she’s just not,” Jon Lovett, who served Clinton during her days in the U.S. Senate, told SiriusXM’s “Alter Family Politics” on Thursday.

Lovett continued, “I worked for her for three years, sometimes she does land jokes, sometimes she doesn’t. She’s kind of a nerdy lady.”
The one-time Clinton aide, who went on to become a TV screenwriter, described the former secretary of state as “authentically a little bit odd.”
“Square, square is the right word,” he said. “She is very, very intense. She is very, very serious.”
“She is more at ease talking about the details of healthcare policy than she is being in the mix with Broad City,'” he said, referring to Clinton’s recent cameo on the Comedy Central series.
Despite saying he’s “glad” Clinton has repeatedly tried to reach young voters, Lovett seemed unconvinced that it would make a difference.
“I think it’s good she does these things and tries to branch out and do these things, but it’s never going to really matter that much,” he said.
