“Rogers: Crashers now welcome at White House”
Post-Salahigate, it reads like a headline out of The Onion, but it seriously was published in Yeas & Nays on June 22, 2009.
White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers, who came under fire after reality star wannabes Tareq and Michaele Salahi got into November’s state dinner uninvited, told those in attendance at the Creative Coalition’s annual meeting that keeping crashers out of the White House was a losing battle because the executive mansion was such a hot spot.
For official White House events, Rogers said, “we’ve decided to put in [an extra row or table] in the back for people who we’ve said no to, but they show up anyway.
“We give up,” she added.
