“I think they’re three peas in a pod, and I fear for my friends’ and for my family’s safety,” said Sarah Palin as she testified over the phone from her home in Wasilla to get an extension of a restraining order against 19-year-old Shawn Christy and his parents on Monday. “They believe that I was engaged in a ‘sexting’ affair with their son. And they’re now asking me why, in all these months of them harassing my friends and my family … why it was that I didn’t personally reach out to them and give them the attention they desire … Because I will not reward that kind of behavior and encourage that type of behavior.”
During the three-hour Anchorage court hearing, Shawn admitted to making rape threats against the former governor and sending her numerous gifts and messages, while his father, Craig Christy, admitted to making dozens of threatening phone calls to Palin’s parents during a two-day period in March. Palin won protective orders last year against Shawn Christy, who has also been investigated for alleged threats against President Obama and Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
State Superior Court Magistrate Jonathon Lack granted restraining orders against the two men, but rejected Palin’s request for a restraining order against Shawn’s mother, Karen Christy, who called Palin’s parents only twice.
