Stocks surge Tuesday morning

Stocks soared at the opening bell Tuesday morning, reversing many of the losses suffered in highly volatile trading Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up over 350 points, or more than 2 percent, in the minutes after markets opened Monday.

That jump brought it within 2 percent of where it started the week, before its dive Monday.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 was also up over 2 percent in early trading, after suffering huge loses and then wild swings Monday.

U.S. stocks rose after China’s central bank lowered interest rates overnight, helping to allay fears about further bad news from the country.

Chinese stock markets rose after the People’s Bank of China moved to lower interest rates and cut reserve requirements for banks.

China’s struggles have driven turmoil in the U.S. and Europe this week and last. Monday saw the highest levels of market volatility since the financial crisis.
