In an interview posted Thursday on the Daily Beast with billionaire presidential hopeful Donald Trump, columnist Meghan McCain found out the Don has a lot of respect for her, her father … well her whole family actually.
“I like you and I like your father, I’ll tell you,” said Trump. “And I like your mother. I like your whole family. Hey look, I supported your family, right?”
Trump has been climbing the polls recently, but some GOP lawmakers have questioned his seriousness as a candidate, including Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. “A lot of people don’t think I’m going to run, and they think it’s because of ‘The Apprentice.’ And I say, give me a break! ‘The Apprentice’ has very high ratings. I don’t need this to get ratings. It’s already the top show on NBC,” he said.
Trump didn’t back down from his “birther” theories either, and insisted that he still wants to see President Obama’s birth certificate, though it’s been released already.
And though he didn’t say whether he was actually running, Trump has now started interviewing campaign consultants, and sources say the list has included pollster Tony Fabrizio and members of Larry Weitzner‘s Jamestown Associates. His short list might even include Meghan, who asked Trump if he’d consider hiring her, to which he replied, “I like the idea! I love it! … See how I do, and you call me at the right time.”
