DUBUQUE, Iowa — Bernie Sanders is traveling all over Iowa promising universal healthcare and free higher education, but don’t expect Hillary Clinton to do the same.
“I’d rather under-promise and over-deliver than visa versa,” Clinton said at a Friday evening at rally in Northern Iowa. “I don’t think we need to be over-promised.
“There’s nothing wrong with America that can’t be fixed with what’s right with America,” she added.
With four days until Iowa caucus night, Clinton and Sanders run neck and neck in the polls. This weekend, the Vermont senator will hold over fourteen events in the Hawkeye State, during which he will continue to talk about expanding the social welfare state. Clinton has continually pressed Sanders for specifics, such as how he plans to pay for all this spending.
While in Dubuque, Clinton criticized Sanders’ healthcare plan, which would require overhauling the Affordable Care Act. “I don’t believe it is the best policy to start all over again, to throw our country in a contentious debate,” she said. She also noted that House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi endorsed her plan.
Thursday afternoon at an event in Newton, Iowa, Clinton hit Sanders’ Wall Street plans, stating that his reforms went too far. On Friday she reiterated those claims as well.
Iowans will caucus Monday.
