Obama praises ‘Mythbusters’ team before series finale

President Obama confessed Friday he’s a “big fan” of “Mythbusters” in a video he shot for a reunion special to celebrate the series finale.

“I’ve even had them over to the White House a few times,” he said of the “Mythbusters” cast. “Now to come to think of it, they never let me blow anything up, but I’m still going to miss them.”

Obama said he is particularly grateful for the time the show’s hosts — Adam Savage, Jamie Hyneman, Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and Grant Imahara — proved that “America did actually land on the moon.”

He continued to lay out their achievements over their 248-episode run.

“After more than 1,000 myths tested, after more than 900 explosions, after 83 miles of duct tape, I just want to say thank you to Adam, Jamie, Kari, Tory, Grant and to all of the ‘Mythbusters’ team for entertaining us these 14 years,” he said.

The impact of the “Mythbusters” on millennial engagement in science was not lost on the president.

“I want to thank you for inspiring so many young people to ask the big questions about our world, and to seek the big answers through math, science and engineering,” he said. “It’s going to make a real difference to America’s future, I promise. We’ll be better off because of you.”

“But, the Secret Service will rest easier without you around on our South Lawn,” he added. “Congratulations on a great run.”

The reunion special will also include appearances by “Titanic” director James Cameron, “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan and astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
