The Alabama GOP Steering Committee declared a vote of no confidence in Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
In a letter released on Monday, the Steering Committee said RNC leadership needs a “new vision for future elections” and does not believe that McDaniel represents the values of the Republican Party.
“We believe that the RNC needs to make defending the American people and their God-given rights and freedom a priority,” the committee wrote. “For these reasons, the Alabama Republican Party’s Steering Committee cannot support or endorse Ronna McDaniel for RNC Chair and declare our vote of no-confidence in her leadership.”

McDaniel has been under increased scrutiny since the midterm elections when Republicans fell short of a predicted red wave. She is being challenged by RNC committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon and Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow. Former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) has opted not to run despite initial interest but did call on McDaniel to step down from her role.
Due to the Republicans’ lackluster performance, close to 73% of GOP voters are in favor of replacing McDaniel, according to a poll from the conservative organization Convention of States Action. Only 6% are supporting a fourth term for the chairwoman.
