Donald Trump found common ground with GOP foe Jeb Bush Monday in a rare and temporary break from the pair’s incessant bickering on the campaign trail.
The Republican presidential front-runner said in an interview with The New York Times that the Washington Redskins name should remain as is despite persistent claims that it carries negative connotations.
“Honestly, I don’t think they should change the name, unless the owner wanted to,” Trump told the Times.
Similarly, Bush reportedly told SiriusXM radio last week, “I don’t find it offensive.”
“I know Indians that are extremely proud of that name,” Trump added Monday. “They think it’s a positive.”
Trump, who holds the No. 1 spot in the Washington Examiner’s presidential power rankings, has positioned a crusade against political correctness at the center of his campaign.
The outspoken billionaire’s unabashed use of the phrase “anchor babies” to describe children born in the U.S. to illegal-immigrant parents and off-the-cuff remarks are constant reminders to his supporters that he refuses to tolerate political correctness.
