By The Numbers: The Gingriches love their gems

Diamonds must be Newt’s best friend. Politico reported Tuesday that presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and his wife, Callista may have owed a hefty debt to the jewelry store Tiffany’s at one time. How much exactly are we talking?

Between $250,001 to $500,000: Amount Callista reported on financial disclosure forms that the couple owed to the hig-end jeweler back when she was employed by the House Agriculture Committee. The documents, which list the Tiffany and Company debt as a “revolving charge account,” cover the 2005 and 2006 calendar years. The actual amount owed to the jeweler isn’t specified because the House of Representatives’ financial disclosure forms do not ask for a specific amount, but a range of debt.

When Politico inquired about whether Gingrich had settled the tab, a spokesman gave a “no comment.”
