Speakeasy: Abramoff coy on his presidential picks

“Now if I did and I said it that would be the end of him, wouldn’t it?”

Jack Abramoff‘s response when asked Tuesday if he had a favorite Republican presidential candidate. The former lobbyist, who spend three and a half years in jail after pleading guilty to corruption charges, sat down with interviewer Carol Joynt for her program Q&A Cafe at the Georgetown Ritz-Carlton. The only candidate he discussed by name was former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. “He comes up with wonderful ideas, he comes up with bad ideas, he’s impetuous at times,” Abramoff said. “And I don’t know if he’s got the characteristics that somebody needs to be president. I don’t either by the way.”
