Ted Cruz suggested Friday that Donald Trump skipped the Conservative Political Action Conference because he wasn’t in the mood to meet with real conservatives.
“So Donald Trump is skipping CPAC — I think somebody told him Megyn Kelly was going to be here,” Cruz said as the crowd roared. “Or even worse, he was told there were conservatives that were going to be here. Or even worse, he was told there were libertarians that were going to be here. Or even worse, he was told that young people were going to be here. And none of y’all have a degree from Trump University.”
Some attendees waited for the applause to die down and began to chant “Trump,” but were drowned out by boos from the crowd.
Cruz waited for the crowd to grow silent before rallying it again.
“The men and women here are a grassroots army, the men and women here love liberty, and let me tell you as dire as things are, people are waking up all over this country,” Cruz said. “And help is on the way.”
Cruz shouted much of his speech and received several standing ovations. The Texas senator lambasted Trump throughout his speech while putting forward his own agenda of making the election about jobs, liberty, and security.
