Texas Sen. Ted Cruz told Wisconsinites he thought victory in Tuesday’s primary would change the course of the presidential election.
The senator took the stage in Waukesha following two former Republican rivals singing his praises, including Carly Fiorina and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
“Tomorrow it is the turn of the great state of Wisconsin. The entire country, its eyes are on the state of Wisconsin,” Cruz said. “Wisconsin has a national platform, has a national podium. A victory here tomorrow will resonate across this country, will change the outcome in states to come all across this country.”
Walker has consistently said his state could reset the presidential race. The governor launched his failed presidential bid more than eight months ago in the same spot Cruz campaigned on the night before the Wisconsin primary. The Texas senator complimented Walker’s tenure in the Badger State, and Cruz used Walker’s presence as an opportunity to needle Donald Trump.
“Trump recently questioned whether your governor can ride a Harley,” Cruz told the crowd. “I would encourage Donald, come on down. I think Scott would be happy to give Donald a ride, maybe give him a little side cart that he could hold onto.”
After Walker gave a thumbs up, Cruz continued to insult Trump’s appearance. Cruz responded to an attendee’s shout by jokingly saying that if Walker drove a motorcycle at 100 miles per hour with Trump at his side, the former reality television star’s hair may still not move.
Trump’s poll numbers appeared to be steadily dropping in Wisconsin following a series of comments he made about women, including a tweet with a photo featuring Cruz’s spouse in an unflattering manner.
Cruz’s comment about his opponent’s appearance may go unnoticed in comparison to Trump, as he made it while an interview with him aired on Fox News and the NCAA men’s basketball championship tipped off on Tuesday night.
With hours remaining until the results in Wisconsin are known, the candidates appear to have largely stopped talking about their wives. They have not stopped talking about their political opponents’ physical appearance.
